One of the most common questions we receive is "I just bought a Lambretta, and what can I do to get a little more speed out of it?". To help you find an upgrade package which is right for the type of riding you do, this page breaks down the levels of upgrades we can offer based four classes from the original American Scooter Racing Association class structure.

After reading the class descriptions and what levels of improvement they offer, just find your model in the chart below and click on that level of tuning. Please note that each quote includes only the items necessary to upgrade an engine which is already in sound running condition. Items such as bearings, seals, clutch plates, etc. must be in top condition before any performance work is carried out.

Stock Class Tune: This base level of tuning is available for all models of Lambretta, and can include anything from just simple porting and polishing on some models, to replacement of the complete top end, carburetor, and exhaust system on other models. These mild upgrades maximize the power output of your engine using only stock replacement parts, with no loss of reliability. Smaller capacity machines will benefit the most (power gains of up to 60% and top speed increases of 15mph can be achieved), but noticeable power gains will be achieved on all models. You will gain a large increase in acceleration and torque, which will be a major benefit when pulling hills or carrying a passenger.
Group C Tune: For Li/SX/TV/GP/DL/Serveta models. One of the most popular classes during the early years of the American Scooter Racing Association was Group C. This class catered to the racer who wanted a little more excitement than a stock class machine could offer, without breaking the bank in the process. The rules were simple – a larger carburetor and an expansion chamber exhaust could be used, but the piston, cylinder, and head had to be original or stock replacement items. Compared to a Stock Class tune, this level of tuning will deliver up to 20mph in extra top speed, with power gains of 80% or more for more acceleration through each gear.
Group D Tune: For Li/SX/TV/GP/DL/Serveta models. According to the original ASRA class system, Group D was for full bodywork machines up to 215cc. We will consider a Group D Tune to be any upgrade that includes a 28mm or larger carburetor, expansion chamber exhaust, and a cylinder kit or porting package that will fit without modifications to the scooter's frame or bodywork and leaves the carburetor on the original side of the machine - for example the AF Rayspeed Rapido kit for 200cc machines, and the Granturismo or Mugello kit for 125-175cc machines. This level of tuning will maximize the power output of your machine while keeping a relatively stock appearance. Power gains of over 100% (yes more than double the stock output!) can be had, with top speed gains of up to 25mph and huge increases in torque.
Group E Tune: For Li/SX/TV/GP/DL/Serveta models. The high end of the ASRA class structure has always been Group E, or unlimited specials. Scooters in this class are highly modified, using a cylinder kit such as the AF Rayspeed TS1 or the Imola, a full race expansion chamber system, and a 32mm or larger carburetor. Note that in some cases, modifications to the scooter's frame and/or bodywork may be necessary, such as cutting off the battery tray to allow the carburetor to be moved to the right side of the machine, or cutting a hole in a side panel to use an air filter on a larger carburetor. Massive power gains of 200-300% and up can be had, with top speeds of 80mph or more!
